Apple won a big legal victory over Samsung regarding key smart-phone technology, sending AAPL shares higher by 3 percent before the bell on my tradeMONSTER platform. Nokia and Research in Motion, which are expected to benefit from Samsung's loss, rose 11 percent and 7 percent. Google, whose Android operating system is key to Samsung, fell 2 percent.
Dollar Thrifty Accepts Hertz Buyout
Dollar Thrifty Automotive agreed to be purchased by Hertz Global Holdings for $2.3 billion, or $87.50. The deal ends more than two years of back-and-forth talks and dealings. DTG rallies 7 percent in the premarket.
ImmunoGen Climbs on Positive Drug Data
ImmunoGen announced positive results for a Phase 3 trial of its trastuzumab breast-cancer drug, which is being developed along with Roche. IMGN climbs 17 percent on the news.
Seadrill Earnings Beat Consensus
Seadrill reported second-quarter earnings of $1.09 a share, beating the $0.78 a share. Management also nudged the dividend higher and said that backlog is now at a record $20.3 billion. SDRL rose 2 percent in the pre.
