Housing starts, jobless claims on docket

Today's economic calendar will slow down from this week's busy start, but it still contains some important data on housing starts, jobless claims, and the Philadelphia Fed Survey.
July housing starts will kick off the day at 8:30 a.m. ET with a consensus expectation of 750,000, down from 760,000 in June, as estimates range from 695,00 to 785,000. The forecast for permits is 766,000, up from June's 755,000 and within a range of 695,000 to 805,000.
Jobless claims are also on the schedule for 8:30 a.m. ET and have a consensus forecast of 365,000, a slight rise from the previous week's 361,000 and within an estimated range of 355,000 to 357,000. Continuing claims are expected to decline to 3.3 million from 3.332 million.
The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index will be released at 9:45 a.m. ET.
The Philadelphia Fed Survey for August is up next at 10 a.m. ET. The consensus estimate is -5.0, up from the -12.9 print in July. The range is from -16.5 to zero.
The weekly EIA natural-gas inventories will be reported at 10:30 a.m. ET.
A speech by Minnapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Narayana Kocherlakota is the last scheduled event, at 8 p.m. ET.
