Today's economic calendar includes manufacturing data and contruction spending, as well as an appearance by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.
The PMI manufacturing index for September will be released at 9 a.m. ET. The consensus forecast calls for a reading of 51.5, the same as August's level. Estimates range from 51.1 to 51.9.
The ISM manufacturing index for September will come out at 10 a.m. ET. The consensus expectation is 49.7, up slightly from August's 49.6. The range of estimates is from 48.0 to 50.6.
Construction spending for August will also be reported at 10 a.m. ET. The consensus projection is 0.6 percent, up from July's -0.9 percent. Estimates range from -0.2 percent to 1.0 percent.
A four-week Treasury bill auction is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, followed by three- and six-month notes at 11:30 a.m. ET.
Bernanke is scheduled to speak at 12:30 p.m. ET.
